WASH Stewardship Awards
The Coalition of NGOs in Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS) announces the first Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Stewardship Awards.
CONIWAS has set up a seven-member Panel of Experts to identify deserving WASH-oriented institutions and individuals, who have made significant contributions to the sector in the past decade, to be recognised. WASH stakeholders and members of the public with evidence-based information on deserving institutions and/or individuals are invited to submit nominations for the categories listed below.
CATEGORY ONE: SAFE WATER SUPPLY
- Innovations in delivery of safe water supply at community or institutional levels.
- Training in management, operation and maintenance of water supply.
- Design, construction and/or supervision of water supply systems or point sources.
- Advocating for safe water delivery.
- Policy formulation in safe water delivery.
CATEGORY TWO: IMPROVED BASIC SANITATION AND HYGIENE
- Technical innovations for sanitation services and products.
- Support for or contribution to institutional capacity building for improvement in sanitation and hygiene.
- Implementation of sanitation interventions in communities and institutions.
- Behaviour change campaigns for improvement in sanitation and hygiene, at scale.
- Support for advocacy, policy formulation, regulation and enforcement in sanitation and hygiene services delivery.
CATEGORY THREE: NGOs/CSOs/CBOs
- Significant contribution to WASH sector policy formulation, regulation and enforcement.
- Significant contribution to WASH sector innovations.
- Provision of WASH services to the poor and vulnerable.
- Advocacy for and contribution to strong sector accountability, monitoring and an enabling environment.
- Support for socio-cultural changes in relation to WASH behaviours and attitudes.
CATEGORY FOUR: RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
- Research and development output for improvement in sanitation and hygiene.
- Development of innovative WASH products and services, at scale.
- Innovations in reducing cost of WASH products and the use of local materials.
- Presentation of excellent WASH papers at international conferences.
- Publication of excellent WASH articles in reputable journals.
CATEGORY FIVE: PRIVATE SECTOR
- Contribution to the development of products, technology and innovations that have improved WASH services delivery.
- Investment in business models or solutions to provide sustainable WASH services.
- Contribution to creating an enabling environment for WASH through advocacy and policy.
- Effective collaboration and engagement with sector stakeholders.
- Contribution to capacity building and job creation in the sector.
CATEGORY SIX: MEDIA
- Commitment to consistent WASH reporting.
- Initiative in exploring over-looked WASH issues and challenges.
- Targeted activism on critical and ignored WASH issues.
- In-depth or investigative journalistic pieces on WASH.
- Published journalistic pieces on WASH that meet high standards of ethics, accuracy, balance, clarity etc.
MODE OF SUBMISSION
- Evidence in support of the nomination.
- Contact information of both the nominee and the nominator.
- Submit nominations by Email to: coniwas@yahoo.com; or in a sealed envelop to the CONIWAS Secretariat, 6 Mango Avenue, Asylum Down, Accra {adjacent to the CPP Head Office and near Highgate Hotel and behind Sunny FM}.
